Ajax to submit bid for Marseille defender Leonardo Balerdi – Get French Football News

[ad_1]

Marseille defender Leonardo Balerdi is attracting serious interest from Dutch outfit Ajax Amsterdam, Foot Mercato report. The Argentina defender was loaned from Borussia Dortmund to Les Phocéens in 2020 with a mandatory option to buy, that was triggered a year later, tying Balerdi down to a contract with the Ligue 1 outfit until 2026.

It has not been plain sailing for the 23-year-old on the southern coast, with several erratic defensive performances to his name. For several months, though, Balerdi stepped up, gaining the trust of Igor Tudor. The Croatian manager has started him for every Ligue 1 and Champions League game this season.

Now, Balerdi’s rising profile has caught the eye of AFC Ajax. The Dutch outfit is in the market for a defender following Daley Blind’s departure to Bayern Munich. Worringly for OM, Ajax has contacted Balerdi and his entourage, making their interest known. Foot Mercato report that the Argentine is “very interested” by the interest shown by Ajax, who are preparing an offer between €15m and €20m.

OM president Pablo Longoria considers Balerdi to be untransferable during this transfer window, but a high transfee fee may soften his stance.
