Philippe Clement expresses desire to keep Alexander Nübel at Monaco – Get French Football News

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match against AC Ajaccio, AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement expressed a desire to retain Alexander Nübel (26) when the Bayern Munich goalkeeper’s loan expires at the end of the season.

Nübel arrived at the Principality club at the beginning of the 2021/22 season. He has imposed himself as the undisputed number 1 in that time, and in Ligue 1 this season, no goalkeeper has made as many saves as the German. However, his continuation at the club, even until the end of the season, had been thrown into doubt following a season-ending leg break for Manuel Neuer.

In search of a new number one until the end of the season, Nübel has been strongly linked to a return to the Bavarian club. However, Monaco want to keep the player, and as Nübel stated, it is the Principality club who have the right to accept or refuse an early severance of the loan deal.

Clement has expressed a desire not only for Nübel to stay until the end of the loan, but also to stay beyond it. Questioned by Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle, the Belgian coach said, “I see that he is very happy here, but I don’t know what his options will be at the end of the season. It will depend on his demands and also on money. But if it is possible to keep him, we will do so. We will sort that out in the coming months. It is still a bit early.”
