Speaking in a press conference on Friday, AS Monaco head coach Philippe Clement was asked again to comment on the future of French international central defender Benoît Badiashile, who has an agreement in principle to join Premier League side Chelsea. The London side remain in negotiations with the Principality side over a permanent transfer for the left-footer who has 18 months remaining on his current deal.

“I think that there is not only one club that has contacted Benoît Badiashile. There is not just Chelsea. There are lots of interests for several of our players over the last 6 months. That is also the case with Benoît. The most important thing, remains AS Monaco and the players. That’s my role. I see that he is good with the squad, during training sessions. He celebrated the win vs Auxerre, he was giving them pointers.”

When questioned about why Badiashile did not start vs Auxerre in mid-week, in a match that ASM won – 3-2 – Clement had the following to say:

“I also have to look to the future, it is normal to play with Malang Sarr, he’s proving on the pitch that I integrate him more than in the last few months.”

ASM are in the meantime looking at the possibility of replacing Badiashile numerically.
