Séko Fofana: “I know I have the level for the Champions’ League.”
“It is always flattering that a big club is interested in you. But, for the moment, in reality, I am a Lens player and I am really enjoying myself. We have a project that we are trying to put into place, it is flattering that they are interested in me, but it remains a fiction.”
Having remained with Lens in summer, and signing a new contract, the Ivorian discussed more about the project under Franck Haise at the northern French outfit:
“At the beginning of the season, the objective was to not get relegated (laughs). Now, we cannot hide behind that much more. We are ambitious. We cannot have the same objectives as PSG and look for Champions’ League football from the beginning. We have to be ambitious on a daily basis, keep our values, because if we do not keep them up everyday, we are going to lose ourselves. We are trying to go as high as possible.”
At 27, Fofana is still yet to taste Champions’ League football – but that is not something that Fofana is remotely insecure about:
“I generally don’t ask myself questions about what I have done in the past. I am happy with what I have done and who I am as a player today. I remain ambitious for what is to come, but I am not putting pressure on it. On whether or not it is playing Champions’ League football, I know that I am of the level for that, but not being in that competition right now, it is not a problem for me. I know what will come. I have other objectives in mind at the moment, but all will come one day.”
