Newcastle United courting Ferland Mendy with major salary offer

The 27-year-old joined Los Blancos in 2019 in a €48m transfer – whilst Carlo Ancelotti is understood to be a big fan of the left-back, he has been criticised somewhat considerably by the LaLiga champions’ supporters over the course of his stint with the Madrid outfit, specifically as it relates to his on-pitch form and his consistent fitness concerns. He has made 17 appearances so far this season and feels comfortable in Madrid.

Under contract until June 2025, the Le Havre academy product is hoping for a contract extension rather than to seriously consider a move to Saudi Arabian-owned Newcastle United.

PSG have continued to monitor his performances, but have not expressed any major interest at this stage. At left-back, the club is facing a personnel shortage owing to the continued fitness concerns facing Spanish international left-back Juan Bernat and the current lack of availability of Portuguese left-back Nuno Mendes, who suffered a muscular injury during the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
