Speaking to Voix du Nord before Lens’ crunch game with Paris Saint-Germain on New Year’s day, midfielder Salis Abdul Samed reflected on his return to football following the World Cup – where he continued his excellent performances with a dominant display against OGC Nice several days ago.
Samed spoke of his origins in football, and the experience of the World Cup with Ghana. He said “It was incredible. I was already very happy when the coach called me. I immediately called my mother and told her I was going to play for the country.” He then went on to explain that his mother was not into football, and that “she had never seen me play before the World Cup when she saw me on TV”. He then painted a picture of jubilation in his hometown, where “the whole neighbourhood shouted and sang my name, and put pictures of me everywhere.”
Samed will now be looking forward to a huge game with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, which sees the Parisians come into the game with a seven point lead over the Sang & Or, who are hoping to go as far as possible and secure European football by the end of the season.
