Lyon’s staff at crossroads over January transfer window

John Textor’s takeover of Lyon was one that came with investment into the club. With all eyes on the January transfer window, the new American owner has not made any changes to the technical staff and the recruitment unit leaving Bruno Cheyrou in charge of where that investment will go in the transfer market.

The Les Bleus legend has hinted several times at the fact that Lyon needs more competition at several positions stating over the break,  “I discussed with my leaders to try to improve the group. If we want to change things, we have to change the coach and also improve the squad, that’s important. And do it in January.”

Bruno on the other hand seems to think Lyon already has the numbers to compete this season. However, OL’s need for central defenders is more of a glaring need that can not be so easily covered; he did reportedly offer two premier league defenders. The French coach not only refused but had a few names of players he had in mind.

With the January transfer window essentially here, the worst thing OL could do is get into a deadlock. Something that already seems to be forming. To make matters worse, up-and-coming right-back Malo Gusto has several clubs that are interested in his services that could submit an offer. It has also been reported that OL could accept a strong offer for the player leaving the club with more holes to fill. Between injuries and a possible departure of Jérôme Boateng, OL needs to get their coach and Recruitment Manager on the same page immediately.
