Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar top GFFN’s 100 best players in France list

The Get French Football News 100 2022 comprises our selection of the top one hundred talents that French football has to offer, judged solely on their performances in 2022. To be eligible for the GFFN 100, a player must be a registered squad member of a Ligue 1 or a Ligue 2 club on the 28th of December 2022 – heading into the January transfer window.

Players that are eligible are judged on all their professional appearances in 2022, regardless of whether or not they were playing abroad for a part of the calendar year. This applies to the international appearances they might have accumulated as well. Players are ranked in descending order with the highest-rated talent ranked 1st and the 100th highest-rated talent ranked 100th.

The pages ahead contain detailed profiles of all 100 players who are drawn from 19 Ligue 1 clubs and one Ligue 2 club. This year’s 100 includes teenage prospects and veteran warhorses, cat-like goalkeepers and clinical strikers, World Cup heroes and under-the-radar talents. In perhaps Ligue 1’s strongest year this century in terms of talent production, standard of play and adventurous coaching, the quality of footballers in this list is the highest ever seen by the GFFN 100 in it’s ten year history.

Although this publication looks back at the last 12 months, it’s also a guide for 2023 and proves that French football is set to continue its steep upward trajectory for some time to come.
