Kylian Mbappé finishes 2022 as top scorer across Europe’s top 5 leagues
Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Kylian Mbappé (24) has finished 2022 as the top scorer across Europe’s top five leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Bundesliga)
Mbappé has scored 56 goals for club and country across the calendar year in 56 games. With nobody in the top five leagues scoring more in 2022, he pulls off the feat for the first time in his career. For PSG, Mbappé scored 44 goals in just 43m matches, including 32 in Ligue 1. During the 2021/22 domestic campaign, the former AS Monaco forward finished as Ligue 1’s top scorer.
Mbappé also scored 12 goals in 13 matches for Les Bleus, including eight in their World Cup campaign in Qatar. Three of those came in the World Cup final against Argentina. Those goals not only earned him the Golden Boot but also saw him become the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final since Geoff Hurst in 1966. He is the youngest player to score 10 World Cup goals.
Beyond the personal accolades, Mbappé also won the Ligue 1 title with PSG in 2022. However, the Parisian side suffered a disappointing early exit from the Champions League and the Coupe de France. With France, Mbappé helped Didier Deschamps’ side reach the final, before losing on penalties to Argentina.
