Speaking ahead of AS Monaco’s match against Rodez in the Coupe de France on Saturday, Alexander Nübel’s (26) teammate Thomas Didillon (27) said that the German goalkeeper is unaffected by the speculation linking him with a return to Bayern Munich.

Since Manuel Neuer’s (36) season-ending leg break, Nübel on loan at Monaco until the end of the current season, has been linked with a return to the Bavarian side. As Nübel told Get French Football News back in September, he sees “no sense” in returning to the Bundesliga side while Neuer is still number one.

As revealed by sources contacted by Get French Football News, Nübel is unkeen on a return to Bayern Munich unless assurances were given post-Neuer return. There is also the small matter of reaching an agreement with Monaco, who are under no obligation to release the player.

As reported by Sky Sports Germany, Bayern Munich have explored alternative options, and have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer (33) on personal terms.

Regardless of the noise around Nübel’s future, Didillon, who joined Monaco on loan from satellite club Cercle Brugge in the summer, said that his teammate is unaffected.

I have found Alex very calm regarding everything that is being said about him. I think he knows that he is a very good goalkeeper and that he has a glittering career ahead of him. I haven’t felt that he is disrupted. If he did seem disturbed, I would speak to him as a colleague and to give him my support, but I really haven’t seen any sign that Alex is weak or is doubting himself or frustrated in any way,” he told Get French Football News journalist Luke Entwistle.

He continued, “I think it’s a sign of maturity on his side. We all know what the transfer window is like, and what it involves. I am really happy with the way in which he has responded. It hasn’t affected his work ethic or the way in which he functions within the group. I think he is a very positive element in the atmosphere that we have here between the goalkeepers, but also within the group as a whole.”
