Former Almería player Modeste M'bami dies


Former Almería player Modeste M’Bami has died from a heart attack at the age of 40, according to French club PSG.

The former Cameroonian player, who had a long career that included spells with PSG and Marseille, passed away in the French city of Le Havre on Saturday.

M’Bami made his name at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with a golden goal in the quarter-finals against the favourites Brazil.

The midfielder joined PSG in 2003 after playing for Kadji Sport Academy and Dynamo Douala in Cameroon.

He played for La Liga outfit Almería between 2009 and 2011. In 2011, he signed for Changchun Yatai in China. He then played in Saudi Arabia (Al-Ittihad, 2012-13) and Colombia (Millonarios in 2014), before returning to France, to Le Havre in Ligue 2. He ended his professional career in 2016, at the age of 35.

In Cameroon, he organised recruitment days for young players in Africa before returning to France, to Le Havre, where he sadly passed away on Saturday.
