Dejan Lovren completes his return to Lyon – Get French Football News

[ad_1]

Olympique Lyonnais have confirmed the signing of Dejan Lovren (33), who returns to the club from Zenit Saint Petersburg, signing a contract until 2025.

The fee for the deal hasn’t been announced. Lovren, however, had just six months remaining on his contract with the Russian side, meaning that Les Gones will have had to have paid a small fee to acquire his services. The Croatian centre-back, who competed at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, returns to France after leaving in 2013.

He made 72 appearances for Lyon before joining Southampton and ultimately joining Premier League rivals Liverpool. He then left the Merseyside club to join Zenit in 2020. Lyon manager Laurent Blanc has called for “experience, aggression and character” to be added to the squad during this transfer window. Lovren does bring that, and he becomes the first signing of the John Textor era at the Groupama Stadium. He is the third player to return to Lyon in recent months following the summer signings of Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso.
