Aston Villa’s Frédéric Guilbert to return to Strasbourg on a permanent deal – Get French Football News

As reported by L’Équipe, Aston Villa’s French right-back Frédéric Guilbert is set to join Strasbourg for a third spell. Loaned out to Le Racing twice in 2021, first in January for half a season, and again that summer for a year, Guilbert is set to return to Alsace on a permanent deal.

The 28-year-old is set to sign a three-year contract, but according to DNA, this term could be cut short due to a clause in the contract that protects him from relegation to Ligue 2. Approaching the season’s halfway point, the club currently sit at 19th in Ligue 1. Since Villa freed him to leave his former contract six months early, the new contract will also allocate Villa a percentage of his potential resale fee if he were to leave.

Despite interest from various Championship clubs, the right-back wanted a return to France. Guilbert, formerly of Caen, Bordeaux, and Cherbourg, will arrive at the weekend to complete his medical examination on Monday.
