Bayern Munich sealed their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title following their 2-1 win at Cologne on the final day of the season.
The Bavarians also ended up winning the German Super Cup but despite lifting two domestic trophies, their overall performances were far from convincing.
Thomas Tuchel’s men went out of the Champions League at the quarter-finals stage after a 4-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
They would also have missed out on the league crown if Borussia Dortmund hadn’t slipped up against Mainz.
Bayern will now be looking to bolster their ranks in the summer transfer window to improve their performances in the German league as well as in Europe.
They lost Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer but have failed to truly replace the Poland international who scored an incredible 344 goals to be second in the club’s all-time scoring charts.
Replacing a player like Lewandowski is never easy but Die Roten only managed to bring in Sadio Mane from Liverpool.
The Senegalese has made a positive start to life in Munich, scoring 12 goals in an injury-plagued season to be among Bayern’s top scorers.
However, he is not an out-and-out centre-forward, which means they will have to add a new world-class striker this summer.
But even that might not be enough with Thomas Muller reportedly contemplating his future in Bavaria.
According to a Bild report last month, the 33-year-old could leave Die Roten this summer due to lack of game time under Tuchel.
In that case, Bayern will need to sign two strikers for the 2023-24 season.
