RB Leipzig’s Max Eberl has stated that the Bundesliga side have no intention of selling Yussuf Poulsen to Borussia Dortmund, and instead would like to extend the contract of the Danish forward beyond 2024.
Speaking to Bild, Eberl said: “I can confirm that there was recently very concrete interest in Yussi from the Bundesliga,” before adding: “We definitely have no intention of selling him. In fact, regardless of any request, we are interested in continuing his story at RB Leipzig and will sit down after the transfer window and talk about extending his contract beyond 2024.”
Borussia Dortmund will lose Sébastien Haller to Ivory Coast in January and February due to the 2023 African Cup of Nations. As such, BVB are in the market for a striker to provide cover and competition to the former West Ham and Ajax forward.
Youssoufa Moukoko is still an option at the club and featured off the bench against Köln and Bochum in the opening two matchdays, but it’s suggested that club bosses would like to sign another forward before the transfer window closes.
Poulsen has featured in all three RB Leipzig games this season and offers a similar profile to Haller. During his time at the club, which started in 2013, Poulsen has scored 85 and created 63 in 361 games across all competitions.
Competition at RB Leipzig is strong with Lois Openda, Timo Werner, Benjamin Šeško and Poulsen, but it would appear that the latter is still fully in the club’s plans.
