Champions League football returns on Tuesday as Manchester City welcome Bayern Munich to the Etihad Stadium in the first-leg of their quarter-final tie.

Pep Guardiola’s side have hit an impressive run of form at the perfect time. Their 4-1 success over Southampton on Saturday extended their winning streak to an incredible eight matches in all competitions.

Erling Haaland continued his spectacular form at the weekend as the Norwegian earned his name on the scoresheet twice to reach his 30 Premier League goals.

With Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez also scoring, City sealed a comfortable victory at St. Mary’s Stadium.

And now the Citizens turn their attention to the Champions League, a competition they have never managed to win in their entire history so far.

This is highly disappointing for a club that boasts arguably the best coach in Pep Guardiola as well as one of the best squads in the world.

The closest they came to lifting the coveted trophy was in the 2020-21 season when they lost the final to Chelsea by 1-0.

Last year, their Champions League campaign ended in the semi-finals where they lost to eventual champions Real Madrid on a 6-5 aggregate score.

But with Haaland in their ranks, Manchester City will believe they can finally lift the European trophy this season.

They will host German champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday with the English side hoping to secure a healthy lead in the first-leg of the quarter-final.

The Bavarians have recently appointed Thomas Tuchel as their manager after parting company with Julian Nagelsmann.

The German boss is undoubtedly one of the best coaches but he has seen a mixed start at the Allianz Arena so far.

Bayern comfortably defeated title rivals Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in the Bundesliga before suffering a shock cup defeat to Freiburg to exit the DFB-Pokal.

However, the Bavarians took their revenge on Saturday as they beat Christian Streich’s side 1-0 at the Europa-Park Stadion.

Team News

City boss Pep Guardiola won’t have to deal with many injury woes this week as he can call upon a near-fully fit squad for the next encounter.

Phil Foden will be the only player to miss the game as he is recovering after undergoing surgery for appendicitis.

As for Bayern Munich, Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting will sit out the game as he is suffering from a knee issue.

Thomas Tuchel used Serge Gnabry as a centre-forward at the weekend but the German boss could deploy Thomas Muller in that position on Tuesday.

Manchester City vs Bayern Munich potential line-ups

Manchester City: Ederson; Akanji, Ruben Dias, Ake; Stones, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish; Haaland

Bayern Munich: Sommer; Pavard, De Ligt, Upamecano, Davies; Goretzka, Kimmich, Sane, Musiala, Coman; Muller

Manchester City vs Bayern Munich prediction

Manchester City are currently enjoying a spectacular form. They will come up against a Bayern side who are still finding their feet under Tuchel.

But we do expect the German giants to provide a tough competition at the Etihad Stadium, although victory doesn’t look likely for them on Tuesday.
